Cosmos Planetarium
Cosmos planetarium is a state of the art, fully digital, 360° immersive multi-media theatre experience. Our 6 metre mobile planetarium can accommodate up to 40 children or 25 adults - no need for expensive transport costs as we come to you!
With our planetarium software we can give you a virtual tour of the night sky as it will look that evening or any other evening for that matter. We can go thousands of years into the past or future. We can show all 88 constellations in the northern and southern hemisphere skies, including the wonderful ancient greek and roman constellation artwork. We can zoom in on planets to see surface detail as well as their orbiting moons, see nebula and star clusters in our own galaxy or fly out to other galaxies millions of light years away (see below).

Cosmos Planetarium can also play stunning 360° immersive full-dome movies (see our trailer tab) on a wide range of subjects including humanities last steps on the Moon, astrobiology and the hunt for the dark matter particle, to name a few. We can take you on a journey through the solar system and beyond - from flying through Saturn's rings to diving into Jupiter's icy moon, Europa, to search it's vast ocean for signs of life.
For schools, our presenter led shows generally run for 30 to 60 minutes, they are educational and fun. Using a combination of full-dome movies sequences, high resolution images and our virtual planetarium software, we can help consolidate many aspects of the science curriculum at both primary & secondary level. We can also include real time observing with our solar telescopes.
For general astronomy outreach at science festivals, star parties, fundraising events and the like, we can run shorter 30 minute shows to accommodate more people. These shows are aimed at all ages and can also include observing with solar telescopes during the day and large astronomical telescopes in the evening.
All our shows can be customised to your particular needs. If you have a chosen theme for your event, whether it's the solar system, our nearest star the Sun, the history of spaceflight or beyond we can concentrate on anything you like.

As an experienced amateur astronomer he has been delivering astronomy outreach at primary & secondary schools and with various Scouts/Guides groups for many years.
James has a BSc (Hons) in Physics, is a Member of the Institute of Physics, an elected Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, a Member of the British Association of Planetaria and Member of the International Planetarium Society
Steven Gray has had a lifelong fascination with the night sky and has been a keen amateur astronomer for many years. He has a wide practical knowledge of astronomical equipment, is an experienced observer of many celestial objects and is an astrophotographer. He also has many years of experience doing astronomy outreach at all levels.
Steven is the Secretary of the British Association Planetaria, an elected Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2017 Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Travelling Fellow, STEM Ambassador, Member of the International Planetarium Society and Member of the International Dark Sky Association.
With our planetarium Steven has years of experience engaging with the public, developing bespoke shows, content and running presenter led sessions. Over the last year Steven has engaged with well over 15,000 people of all ages!

Where we are based and where we can cover
Cosmos Planetarium is based in West Lothian in the central belt of Scotland and is in easy reach of most Scottish cities (i.e. Edinburgh, just 15 minutes; Glasgow, just half an hour; Perth & Stirling, less than half an hour; Dundee, less than one hour; Aberdeen, less than two hours and Inverness, about two and a half hours). In addition, we can cover most of Northern England quite easily with Newcastle and Carlisle only about two hours away.
